I asked a similar question too...

I downloaded Vega Strike with Synaptic Package Manager but I found it was a bit buggy and froze on me so I deleted it.

Through Wine (like trying to play Windows games in Linux) or Linux games? Haha, try out Planet Penguin Racer xD.

There are many, many games to choose from.
It really depends what sort of games you like.
If you like FPS games, then try out:
Free: sauerbraten / assault cube / urban terror / nexuiz / world of padman
Non-free: quake1 / quake 3 / quake 4 / unreal tournament 2004
Stategy games: tremulous, battle for wesnoth, lincity
Then there's armagetron advanced, wormux, and frozen bubble.
There's plenty more as well.
Perhaps you should check out:

There are too many linux games to list.
Narrow down the search.
Do you want free games?
Nexuiz
sauerbraten
etc, etc, etc,
Do you want linux native games?
Doom3, quake 4, quake wars, savage2, nwn, penny arcade, etc
Do you want games that run great in wine?
WoW, Oblivion, Half life 2, etc.
All of the are "linux" games.

Hey, I just saw this:
Top 25 Linux Games (http://rangit.com/software/top-8-linux-games-of-2007/)
Might take a gander at some of them myself... seeing as they're free.:)

And that's not to mention console emulators. There are several for Linux, some of which probably run better than Windows versions.

There are a lot of games in the official repos. You'll find them through the add/remove programs application.
If you can't find the games you want in the repos, then try getdeb.net, where you can find easily installable deb files of popular Linux games for download: http://www.getdeb.net/category.php?id=3
They've got debs for 46 different games at the moment.
