Is ubuntu a batch processing operating system.

If not then what type of OS is this?

and how advantageous it is over other types?

Actually knowing how versitile linux is i would not be surprised if this was one of its capabilities.

By "batch" are you talking command line scripts, or about something like the workload queuing system found on mainframes?

I've never tried it on a PC, but guess that it could be done. I'm a bit rusty on the details (it's been about 20 years since I've used a mainframe) but expect that you'd need some means of job submission, a job queuing system, some way of co-ordinating the number of jobs active at one time, and some way of routing the output back to the right place.
