Failsafe vs Regular Gnome

I have serious performance issues with my defualt Gnome session and i believe it has to do with the start up scripts. The Gnome fail safe runs much better. How can i get my regular start up more like the fail safe.

Go to System>>Preferences>>Sessions and remove unnecessary items from the startup programs list. This should help
