Hi guys,
upgraded to 7.10 a week or so ago, having issues with my external monitor.
I have an Acer 5600 Laptop with an Intel GMA 950, and an Acer AL1714 external monitor. The issue I am having is that in the 'graphics and screens' setting, it shows two monitors, however one is set as the default and the other is disabled, yet both are working.
The resolution is at 1280x1024 and mirrored across both screens, which is great for my external monitor but my laptop screen cuts off a 1/4 of the desktop. I cannot seem to be able to enable the 2nd screen as an extension of the desktop. I have searched the forums for existing threads and havent had any luck
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I called Canonical and spoke with a tech. I bought a Dell Laptop that came with Ubuntu 7.10 and it USED to have tech support. No longer. If you call the Dell tech support number for Ubuntu Support it no longer works. 866-622-1947 message says they no longer support Ubuntu. It did work once. I used it. But no longer. It was out of Canada. It worked great and I have 6 more months that came with my Dell Computer. Guess I will not be getting that 6 months. Even the Ubuntu hard ware line directs you to the internet.
I got a second number, which turned out to be Canonical who are the folks who send out the free Ubuntu disks. The tech told me that I wasn't subscribed so he couldn't help me.
But he did say that Ubuntu 7.10 would not extend the screen to an external monitor. That it would be corrected in two weeks, with the next Ubuntu release. So if I just waited, I could fix my problem with that.
The tech told me that it cost $200 and some dollars to get a contract with them, for them to help. But I guess you have to buy that at the same time you buy your computer? The basic, you can't get there from here.
Funny how Dell dropped off the face of the earth. I have spent hours with Dell on my Windows system and was so happy not to have to take another course in English as a second language. I should have known it was to good to last.
