So i'm trying to buy a laptop and I know that the ones with intel cpu's and wireless chips, and gpus work better than most but what brand should I buy. HP?, toshiba?, acer? or is there another brand that I should look into. I dont' mind buying online. My price range is around $900-1000

I also don't mind having to spend some time getting everything to work if it will allow me to get a better laptop for the same money.

Thanks

I have a toshiba A100 right now, and it's ok, but i wish certain things would work better, like more of my fn keys.

Some would suggest that IBM (http://www.pc.ibm.com/uk/thinkpad/?epi=web_express) laptops fit rather well with Ubuntu with much more information to be seen at the ThinkPad Owners Thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=645208&highlight=lenovo+thinkpad) as well as the two stickies at the top of the Hardware & Laptops (http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=332) forum.

I have a Toshiba A205-S5859 and everything worked OOB with Hardy.

you'll probably get a lot of != opinions on this one.
I'll just say that I got mine working fine following a couple howto's in this forums.

Might as well share my opinion as well. HP and Toshiba are by far my favorite. Besides their overall look, they just seem to work faster and are more proficient than other brands.I have heard that Toshiba's last forever, I have one from way back, and it works like brand new with Ubuntu.

It also depends on what OS your looking for. Do you want XP or Vista? If not, you might want to consider an apple, their laptops are also very nice. However, I'm not sure how well apple's work with Ubuntu. Maybe you want to got to the Apple thread to see how many problems they have compared to windows problems =D

Oh, by the way, I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7428, and everything works perfectly with ubuntu (with some tweaks). The only thing that doesn't work with my laptop is my Realtek 8101E wireless card. I just went out to buy a (linksys) USB one, and it works fine
