I'd like to be able to just browse my pictures with the left and right buttons on the keyboard. Of course, I'd love to do that in Digikam, since I import my pictures there, but photo browsing in digikam is a completely frustrating thing, so I just open gthumb to do it. However, gthumb won't take the left and right keys as keyboard shortcuts for next and previous picture. Does anyone know how to make this possible? It seems like a really simple thing that someone just forgot to do.

Have you tried gqview? There page up/page down can take you through a directory of images.

That's a decent program... it's slow on loading previews, and pageup/pagedn seems counterintuitive, but decent nonetheless. Most of the functionality actually seems well thought out. This might actually be a program that I'm not embarrassed to use in front of my friends!
