Does anyone know if the problems with this laptop graphics card are fixed in Hardy? Will compiz work normally now? I have a beautiful Dell XPS M1330 just waiting for me to take windows off of it...
PS - has anyone tried compiling the drivers from intellinuxgraphics.com?

I have a Vaio FZ140E, which has the Intel X3100, and things are working for me.
I have previously installed CompizFusion full (with control panel), and that managed to remove my window manager somehow. But I'm not very experienced.
Yeah, it works though.
Just grab a live cd is you're unsure.

Yes, Compiz works OOB with the X3100 using Hardy. My Toshiba laptop has that card.

I have read posts somewhere about CPU usage being way up when compiz is used with this card. Have you had any problems at all running compiz with this card?

Does anyone know if this has been resolved? Are there any indications as to how the intel x3100 graphics will work with 8.10 intrepid ibex release? Right after it's release i get a small break from school and i would like to play around with linux on the xps m1330. I would like to use ubuntu, but any distro is fine with me (except gentoo - i don't have the time to learn that much...)
thanks

why not just dual-boot and see if the card works ok for you? if it doesn't, no big deal, just keep using windows until nvidia gets the linux driver for your card working.
