Hey,
Well I got fed up with Gates's crap, and I decided to switch *back* to Ubuntu. (I had given up when I thought you couldn't play games on it. After one more year of Computer Science I'm finally competent enough to use sudo commands).
Installed it today, everything worked great except my ATi Radeon x1600 pro graphics card which was easy to resolve (if you're having trouble please PM me).
Anyway, I was busy installing Counter Strike: Source and World of Warcraft simultaneously (CS:S off of Steam and WoW in my DVD drive) . Everything was working amazingly. Step 3 of my WoW CD, need to interchange CD 2 and CD 3. I duck my head under my desk, open my drive, put the CD in, and pop back up.
Viola, computer FROZEN. So I'm like allllllrighty, and in my gaping stare the computer just reboots. It gets stuck in BIOS looking for my damned HDDs, never finds them for like 3 reboots. I turn it off and let it rest for a bit. Finally reboots successfully and I'm back in.
Obviously I want to start my WoW install again (assuming it was a freak accident). I pop my CD back in and the computer freezes again.
I became suspicious and through several trials have deemed the problem the CD drive. I can use the computer completely normally, but if I even open the CD drive the computer freezes instantly (no mouse, keyboard, no response at all. As if it were a screenshot).
No clue how to remedy this, my CD drive is a Pioneer DVR-1810 18x18 DVD/CD Writer compatible with Windows Vista (and apparently NOT Ubuntu).
What perplexes me is that it worked for the first 2 WoW CDs...
ANY idea?
