I have a simple computer microphone THAT I KNOW WORKS because I have tried it on another computer. I have two microphone ports, one in the front of the computer and one in back. Both headphone/speaker jacks work just fine. However, when I tried the microphone in Windows, the sound section of the control panel showed it picking up from the microphone. Yet when I tried to use sound recorder, it changed it's mind and said it couldn't find the device. I found it strange and figured it was just Vista. So I booted to Ubuntu...
Similar problem. The recorder does not pick up anything, but the volume seems to be just fine.
I know it's not the mic itself, and I think it strange that it needs any special drivers because it's a very simple no-name mic. I also have a hard time believing it's the sound card itself, because the sound works just fine, yet it may be the problem. If it isn't, then I don't want to waste time and money on a new sound card :-(
any ideas from out there?
