The Devil Is A Squirrel

Hi guys,
You all know for sure those annoying log entries, where somebody obviously runs a bot to get access to your server. From time to time I do the extra effort and take the worst ones and lookup the IP and send an abuse e-mail to the ISP/hoster. Sometimes I get positive feedback from the ISP/hoster or even from the 'attacker' who was a victim by himself.
So I'm wondering if there exists an automated (and fool-proofed) solution for those steps. Maybe even a step further...like a global warning system...to get the big picture and help (at least mine does nothing unless somebody complains about one of his clients, no active monitoring for abuse behavior) the ISP's/hoster to block those guys/infected systems...
