Hello, I've just installed Java for someone in Hardy and now every time they try to launch an application from the OpenOffice.org panel it comes up with a message saying that it has encountered an unexpected problem and crashed. Please help!

can you provide more information on the error?
try to launch open office from a terminal.
You can use the following command.
ooffice -writer
please post any/all output in the terminal window.

The applications all launch and work fine if you use them straight from the menu, it's just when they launch the openoffice.org icon from the menu and it comes up with the panel. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/Windle1/Screenshot-TemplatesandDocuments-Ne.png As far as I'm aware they installed all the Open Office packages in the channel including the OpenOffice.org office suite package. If i launch it from the console with command "oofromtemplate" It doesn't display any error message.
