Do you find thread prefixes like [ubuntu] useful in ubuntuforums.org?
Here's a full list of prefixes: [ubuntu], [kubuntu], [xubuntu], [edubuntu], [gobuntu], [mythbuntu], [all variants], [kde], [gnome], [xfce], [other]
Please note I'm not talking about [SOLVED], which is a special mark, not one of your standard prefixes.
Obviously the information the prefix provides can often be useful, I was just wondering whether you liked its form, its location and the obligation of using it.
Because I don't. ;) I just was wondering whether someone else does. Who knows, I might be the one and lonely!

Would you find a suffix equivalent?
I personally wouldn't mind prefixes as much if they didn't appear before the title of the thread, and if they didn't show up in the Google search results.
But even so, for the vast majority of threads, the prefix is superfluous. I mean, the vast majority of threads have [ubuntu] as a prefix, which doesn't help me much since we're on ubuntuforums.org. If they were optional and the user could add it only if he/she thought it was relevant, then prefixes would become much more useful to me.

No, it just makes the thread titles harder to read. If need be, the flavour can be put elsewhere in the title. Like "Sound problems in Kubuntu" or "How do you install new fonts in Xubuntu?"
Perhaps it could be set in a separate column or something. I just don't like square brackets in the thread titles.

Strange, when I did a search on it, I didn't find anything.

They're not just prefixes, they're tags so you can easily search (for example) all the Xubuntu threads.

i dont think [*buntu] tags would be useful, now maybe version tags would be alot better, most things transcend distros but not version numbers

Just a suggestion...
I think the prefixes would be more better suited if they gave the version number as well.
So perhaps there could be two drop down menu's for the prefix.
Drown down menu 1 could be the OS.
Drop down menu 2 could be the version number of that OS.
Just my two cents.
