Hi all, This has nothing to do with the Christian Edition, but I figured it would be the best place to ask this question--

Is there some program like "Fortune" that displays bible passages, or biblical sayings/ thought?

For those of you who do not know, Fortune is the application that displays random saying in the console at first load, or when you type fortune.

It also plugs nicely into conky.

If there is no such program, would it be very hard to create?
It seems fairly simple to me. It would be great to have it show up in conky! Random bible passages displayed right on the desktop, now thats pretty cool.

Im not sure if there is anything like this for the console but there is a gDesklet that displays random bible passages which is standard in Ubuntu CE. I'm sure if Fortune is open-source you can make it the way that you want it if you know and programming.

EDIT: I can do some searching a little later but I'm making a website for my ammusement but I'm almost finished, the only thing I'm using it for is hosting artwork that I am making for Jeremy ubuntuceartwork.my5gb.com

Awesome! Thanks a lot guys!!
As a tip to anyone wanting to use these plugins for fortune,
The website tells you to place then in /usr/games
But they should actually be placed here:
/usr/share/games/fortunes

It also looks very easy to create your own fortunes, which I may end up doing sometime in the future.

Thanks again!

They don't run from the command-line, but have you seen gVerse (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gverse/) and gLosung (http://www.godehardt.org/losung.html)?

If your looking something that is in English and can be in the command line then I suggest the first one he suggested, it looks promising. I can't figure the seoncd one out because its in German.

According to the Glosung website, the english version for 2008 is on its way (they are redone every year).

If you want command-line, have a look at verse (http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/verse). It displays verses from the KJB.

Yes, gVerse was built specifically for inclusion in Ubuntu CE.
