I have some 1 GB text files that I want to open and edit. Is there an editor that works well for this? Something that does not try to put the entire file in memory.

Vim works very well. I just made a twenty million line file to try it out, and could jump from the bottom to the top instantaneously.

I was going to say Vim, but since I don't have any big files, I can't test it. But you are welcome to try for yourself :)

I have used Vim before, but have not tried it with large files. I shall check it out.
I did not specify before, but I am looking for something to use in Windows. I know there is a Vim version for Windows.
