I apologize in advance, I know I've seen this thread posted already somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.

I'm running Hardy on a Macbook Santa Rosa. I would like for the computer the shut itself down when I close the laptop. Unfortunately, it doesn't and my battery is consistently eaten.

Thanks

Go to System>Preferences>Power Management

You should see "When laptop lid is closed" on the first page. This is for when the power is on.

The next tab over is "on battery" and the same setting is in there.

Best of luck,

My preferences are set as suggested, but I like to logoff when I put the machine to sleep. After logging off, closing the lid does not yield a suspend. How can I globally set the parameter to make the machine suspend when the lid is closed when it is at the login screen? Or is this a bug?

Edit: It has been suggested (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+question/51455) that this can be done through gdm.conf, but I'm not sure how to set this in the .conf file. Any suggestions?
