Playing double layer DVDs

Recently I tried to watch a couple of DVDs on my Ubuntu workstation, but neither Totem nor Mplayer (and VLC too!) seems to be able to read double layer DVDs. I say that, because single layer DVDs work fine, I never got a problem with those!

Any suggestions?
