Ubuntu8.04 hangs on Inspiron 6400

HI,,,,
generally the behavior of Ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop is not reliable, it hangs frequently, especially when i start running files related to sound (mic, radio players online, etc...)
is there any familiar problem with inspiron 6400 with Linux?
do u have any idea??

I hope that link works. I was experiencing similar problems. I thought it might be the ati driver at first. I started booting with the original kernel (2.6.24-16) and the problems seems to have gone away. I will know in a few days if that works.

when i try to play movieplayer or skype or record voice or play my webcam (generally anything realted to sound)the whole laptop hangs. and i can only reset the laptop. and start working again. I am using kernel 2.6.24-19. how to move back to old kernel???
any hints????????????????????????????
