I don't know how he did it, but from the looks of things even CS2 doesn't work. :(

CS2 works fine, CS3 works with the developer version of WINE, but is known to be glitchy.

Inkscape works just as well. [: There are very very few things Illustrator can do that it can't.

Most of the resistance people have against Inkscape I think has its origins in the idea that it (Inkscape) is not "professional" (at least not as Illustrator is).

Even though I don't quite like its interface... I also think Inkscape is great, I just have to find some time to learn it :)

May you allow me a small rant regarding the Gnome interface. While Gnome is great most of the time, sometimes its big interface and controls really do get irritating. I'm using Murrine compact theme and even so I still feel like it is not making good use of screen's real state.

Maybe KDE is better in this aspect? Dunno, never really used it.

Windows does make good use of screen real state most of the time. Don't know about OSX.

Illustrator can do alot more things, Inkscape is bound by SVG specs which means limited filters unless it goes like it and can use filters from GIMP like Illustrator can use Photoshop type filters.

Mesh Tool in Illustrator is very powerful indeed and fast, Inkscape gets bogged down by a little bit of blur.

I've tried to get illustrator CS2 to work without success.
On the WINE site, everyone has reviewed it as 'garbage' -- hopefully some day.

Until then, you can run it through virtualbox. I currently run the whole creative suite 3 through virtualbox.

The only problem with this, is your computer has to be pretty quick for it to run smoothly, because all virtualbox does is run windows in a window!

If you decide to go VB, and need some help setting up, just message me!

I do not need Illustrator at all, just use Inkscape and you will be happy. :)
