Where can learn web design online? Thanks for any help.

See the sticky in the Programming Talk and my wiki.

A good starting point is "anywhere" - by observing the kind of web pages that look good, and the kind of web pages that look "yuck". The next step is to ask if you want to learn HTML (or any of the other tools used to specify web page content), or if you would be content to use some kind of software-aided design (note: Yahoo/Geocities pagebuilder isn't too Ubuntu-friendly).

Perhaps some more clued-up person can help with more specific pointers.

w3schools.com (http://w3schools.com) - best web tutorials to be found (in many people's opinions). Start with the html and css courses.

Obviously they don't teach you actual "design" - that's your job. Like lisati said, look at cool websites for design inspiration. Here are some nice inspiration gallery sites:
CSS Remix (http://cssremix.com/)
Faveup.com (http://faveup.com/)
CSS Based (http://www.cssbased.com/)
and of course CSS Zen Garden (http://www.csszengarden.com/).
