Man I have GOT to start playing with blender! There's just no excuse. I keep frumping and fretting about the learning curve, but that was my b.s. excuse for GIMP and now I can't go back to Photoshop (really, I tried and I hate hate hate Photoshop for my type of work).

Blender rocks!
To find out just how hard it really rocks, watch out for "Big Buck Bunny", the result of the latest open movie project sponsored by the Blender Foundation. Official public release has been scheduled for May 30th or 31st. There are copies on YouTube now but I recommend waiting for the high definition version. It's just awesome. Blender makes Pixar-style animation available to the masses. All of the movie (except for the music) has been produced with open source tools: Blender, GIMP, Inkscape, Ubuntu and others.

It would be nice to add standard solid bodies to physics simulations, I dislike using of game engine. Yes, fur and cloth looks impressive, fluids also. But when you need to animate chain or some rigid body... there is a problem. Any way: NEW BLENDER IS GREAT! There are many new features. I like new reflection system a lot. Did you try hair styling in Blender?

I will get a little bit metaphysical here...
I currently take for granted the fact that I can't live without Photoshop for my CG needs, however, the human mind is very curious and interesting in this aspect - accommodation. Breaking habits and paradigms is perhaps the most difficult thing to do but the most rewarding too - the model you have of some slice of reality gets broader, more connections are made... that's what I call expanding the consciousness :)
I've bashed Gimp many times for its interface and workflow, but who knows, it might even work better after I take the time to understand it.
And Blender, oh Blender, it seems amazing! I gotta find me some time to learn and play with it!

Then new feature I like the most with new Blender is actually an information: developers starts to rewrite Blender code, in effort to make Blenders smaller, faster and more stable. They making perfect platform for development in the future! Well... I can't wait that future... :KS
