I just took a look at a dvd which I consider a 'compilation' of other peoples' work(s). I may be wrong, this is why I am here trying to get some discussion going regarding this 'compilation' or suite of A/V software.

I went to the Ubuntu Studio web site, discovered the software is a voluminous 1.1 gig ISO, which would be a DVD ISO. Currently, I do not have the space nor the ability to download such a large file due to caps placed on my friends' internet access. I have some questions.

1) Is the DVD available for order for free like the Ubuntu CD?
2) What exactly is on the DVD?
3) Are the same programs available in the repositories individually?
4) Who here has downloaded and installed the suite?

I have a few more questions, but will ask them as discussion progresses (IF it progresses, hehe)

Please discuss.

The entire install can be done from a regular Ubuntu system by installing the meta-packages you'd like. Do apt-cache search ubuntustudio to see a listing, or take a look at http://packages.ubuntu.com for a detailed rundown of the resulting software that is installed for each meta-package.

As for your "compilation" comment to start your post off, every distro is just that - a compilation of software - particularly in the Linux/FOSS world. The UbuntuStudio developers have put in years of work to get these packages to work stably on Ubuntu, so it's not like some kid put that page up overnight by pasting some packages together into an iso if that's what your attempting to imply.

Simply put, if you're serious about creating multimedia on Ubuntu, you NEED to install UbuntuStudio IMHO (at least for audio anyway).
