Suggestions? Sound Forge 6 is one of the core pieces of software I still use on WinXP, and would like some suggestions on a replacement package capable of running in Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.
Thanks!

Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) is the most widely used - in terms of functionality it's pretty close to SF6. Rezound (http://rezound.sourceforge.net/) is another, similar program. Both are in the repos.

ACK! I think I selected Audacity...not sure, will discover this when I get to it. So many small packages to go through.
I suppose I should get used to using GIMP now. I need a good book to purchase for GIMP, any suggestions for that?
(heads over to the Audacity web site looking for docs to pore over and learn)

Rather than buying a GIMP book, download Grokking The GIMP from the repos (apt-get install grokking-the-gimp, from memory), then see if you need anything else :)

I shall indeed look into that. I do not have net access where I live, so I carted my computer to a friends place, and will place my Ubuntu hdd into my tower, and do as you recommend me to do.
Thanks so much. After years and years of doing things the Microsoft way, its time I did things my way. :)
P.S. After spending a ton of time on the Audacity web site, and downloaded a plethora of plugins and enablers for Audacity, am I to assume these specific plugins wont work under Ubuntu? If so, I will learn how to make my own plugins for Audacity over time. Anyone know where there are Ubuntu-compatible plugins for Audacity?

The ubuntustudio-audio-plugins metapackage will install all the available LADSPA plugins in the repos. If that's not enough to get you started, nothing will be!

Prismatic7, could you please give me the concise name for the metapackage you suggested I download? Is the word metapackage included in the name of the package or no? I shall wait for your response, then grab it. hehe I just realized, how large is this metapackage, do you know?
UPDATE: 10.9 megabytes is the size of ubuntustudio-audio-plugins, which is truly a huge plugins pack seeing as average plugin size I have noticed is less than 100 kilobytes. Wow and thanks for the heads-up.
Thanks.
