Disconnecting camcorder

Do you need to umount a camcorder or just power it down???

Is it a HDD camcorder? If not, it's probably ok not to sweat it too much.

I don't have any useful experience with MiniDV on Ubuntu - I only have Ubuntu on my laptop which is, sadly, slightly under-powered for using with i.Link/DV/firewire cameras I didn't do my homework properly when I purchased it, silly me!!!!

Having said that, my experience with Windows on my desktop with both MiniDV and Digital-8 cameras suggests that with well-written capture software, there shouldn't be a problem with powering it down. The Windows software I've used and a DVD recorder with an i.Link connection all treated it as if the recorded signal on the tape ran out.
