I thought ubuntu was different than ms but just like ms stole the name longhorn off a can of chew,it seems ubuntu also ripped thier latest name and wallpaper off a pack of smokes.

I've been smoking these before hardy came out.
Pic also in my album.

The Ubuntu naming convention goes like this:
<Adjective> <Animal>
The heron was the animal chosen to represent the letter 'H", and "hardy" was the adjective.
Considering a heron looks like this:

I didn't expect they'd use a squirrel as the logo :).
So, where's the ripoff?
EDIT:
Plus, the release version is not officially called anything heron, just Ubuntu 8.04, the "Hardy heron" is a development thing.

You have to be kidding me. MS did not steal the name lornhorn from a dip can. Longhorn term has been around for a long time. I doubt Ubuntu stole the name from a Cigerette Company....get a life.

Lol , Living in Pittsburgh I do not know my birds nor really care to.
Wasn't trying to diss ubuntu but that bird should be mad.
The bird they used is sorta smokey looking + the whole background itself and none of the swirls quite look like a debian swirl.
Somehow I just cant picture a bird watcher making up the name ,sitting with his or her laptop outside seeing herons walking or flying around.
But I can picture an under paid or volenteer worker in a small room with a cheap pack of smokes and some coffee.
I like ubuntu.
Been using ubuntu for years and other linuxes.
Pretty much useless right now on anything but my laptop with intel graphics, graphics wise.
Acer 5610 laptop - Intel Graphics 950 (works)
Asus nforce 560 M2N-sli - Phenom - 1GB Nvidia 8500GT (dose not work well) :frown:
Emachines T6212 - 512MB ATI Radeon HD2600 pro (dose not work well) :frown:
Compaq s4000nx - 256MB nvidia 6200 (probly works well but I have a bunch of kids games on xp for a kid.1 150 pack of popcap games pretty much crushes all the kids games linux has to offer. :frown: I dont do wine.I want linux stuff on linux and windows stuff on windows.Everything decent has a windows port.Gimp, openoffice, games ...ect )
Cards I've ubuntu-ed on:
ATI X300 (worked with some config) :frown:
ATI 9200 (a pain but worked with some config) :frown:
Nvidia old 64 MB (works) old :frown:
Slower than xp on a old 500mhz pc without desktop effects. :frown:
other pcs............
Tired of config.
Pretty much just waiting for real os/driver/option fixes and not forum fixes for these problems.
The bird they used should have been the penguin.
The name Problem Penguin. :lolflag:
There was days I used to tell my freinds and family about ubuntu ,today is not one of those days...............
Other than that the art work and design is just plain, orange and brown.
Looks like someone threw thier orange peels into a cup of coffee.
I just wanted to post the smokes basically ,I should not have titled it as rippoff probly.
I found it funny.
The Slickness themes are the nicest I've ever seen on gnome.
If you made the black one default or one of the defaults you can pick , I would give the artwork and design team 2 thumbs up,
but this OS needs more than artwork and design to make it fly or smoke like a Heron.
puff* puff*
Desktop effects or artwork dont impress as much as a OS that picks up and configures my hardware correctly though.
Peace.

You get a life dockhead, Longhorn chew has been out forever.
Its funny how these big companys with big $ cant come up with original names.
Animals have nothing to do with computers.....
I'm done with this .If you reply you will talk to yourself.

*starts talking to myself*
I'm pretty sure the latest Microsoft OS is officially called VISTA
OMG Vista? That's a word that already exists, in fact 'windows' have been around for centuries!
Ubuntu is an African word!
Fedora is the name of a hat!
Macintosh is the name of an apple!
My monitor is a ViewSonic, which are just two existing words mashed together
I'm drinking VitaminWater and the flavor is revive
ALL THESE WORDS ALREADY EXIST OH NO!!!!
The sky is falling!!

Longhorn is an animal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_longhorn_(cattle)
A heron is also an animal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heron
I don't know what a "dockhead" is, perhaps it is an effort to get around the forum's inbuilt censor. That is against the CoC:
3. Profanity: Remember that the forums are used by people of all age groups and of all tolerance levels regarding profanity usage. When in the support areas of the forum, please try to keep your language polite and courteous and refrain from the usage of profanities. In the Cafe and Backyard areas, mild profanity/swearing is allowed in the context of general speech. Explicit profanity/swearing is not allowed, and under no circumstances will we allow any profanity to be directed toward another person. Please see the Ubuntu Code of Conduct's requirements to "Be Considerate" and to "Be Respectful" and the descriptions given there for more exact specifications. A language filter is in place to catch any profanities that you may have accidentally used. Do not attempt to circumvent the language filter by using variations or slight misspellings of profanities.
You are done? You are right ;)
I assume you are finished after delivering this...whatever. Good bye, and I hope you never actually meet a longhorn or a heron. (They are big ripoffs you know, they should be sued. Those stupid animals.)
