Sound problems with Inspiron 6400.

HI,,
When i listen to music there exist fast cuts in the sound.
and when ever i use voice recorder (built in Ubuntu) the whole OS hangs.
and i have to reset the PC.

help?????

Which sound hardware do you have? Creative or Sigmatel on Inspiron 6400?
I had same problems. One of the reason was - in windows when you plug in microphone it asks you to use as MIC or AUX IN. So you plug in MIC in windows, select MIC and then without removing MIC, reboot into ubuntu. It might solve mic problem.

i have the sigmatel.
well it used to ask me about in windows MIC or AUX in, but not anymore. I ll try to figure it out in windows.
also the voice recorder which comes with Ubuntu, when i use it , it always hangs..
