View Full Version : Intrepid just doesn't feel right....

I've only been using ubuntu since dapper drake, but when I hear "intrepid", it just doesn't feel right. I've gotten so used to the names that end with "y"

Intrepid...

I dunno, I might be crazy, but it just sounds weird to hear people saying "Oh, I can't wait for intrepid!" I feel like there needs to be a noun and explanation after it, like "Oh, I can't wait for intrepid explorers to reach the center of the earth!"

thoughts?

It sounded strange at first but I'm used to it now.

the OP is talking about the phonetics of the previous codenames. And I have to agree, I much preferred the -y suffix to the adjective part of the codename. I wonder if there weren't any good choices on the wiki that ended in -y. [goes to check]

edit: that was probably the reason...the choices were pretty horrendous for I. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames

Also, I believe the rest of them had two syllables, whereas Interpid is 3 syllables.

Let's just call it Ibex for short instead.

Breaking tradition, but it sounds much cooler than Intrepid.

Ibex does sound better

Yea, I probably will start referring to it as ibex. maybe we can sway the populous into it also. I also have to acknowledge that there aren't many good adjectives that start with i

Dapper Drake doesn't have a y so that means that after this release they should go back to a y name for 3 or 4 releases:)

Seems like primary adjectival use doesn't hinder using it as a stand-alone name at all:

Maybe the release after Intrepid will be something like Jiggly Jellyfish or Jolly Jackal.
