I've installed 6.06 LTS a while back in a VMWare virtual environment. I've since then decided to upgrade to 8.04 following the instructions located here: http://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades#head

After the upgrade and first reboot, the bootup simply haults on "* Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local) [ OK ]"

Oddly enough, all the web service provided by this machine still function perfectly. Plus, I can SSH in and do whatever I need to. This is a production machine providing web services to a local intranet.

Any ideas?

Have you tried hitting a key after that point. I remember having the same problem and thinking it had stalled, but when I hit enter it went past that point and showed the standard login prompt.

Well now isn't that a logical conclusion. It does now let me hit enter and go right to a login screen.

Still, any reason why it might hang on bootup? I'd still like to get that resolved if possible.

Thanks,

-Chris
