I'm trying to play mkv videos with ssa/as.s subtitles on it, the subtitles are displaying but they are displaying as ugly and giant white subtitles, is there a way to configure it to display as they are defined on the ssa/as.s subtitle file? I already tried vlc, mplayer and totem.

PS

Ignore the dot between as.s I had to put it like that due to the censored word :x

are they hardmuxed into the mkv file, or are they a separate ssa file?

that will show you how to demux the mkv file and get the subtitle file out. I think that will then give you more options in vlc etc...
