Slower Internet

I recently went from windows xp to ubuntu. I notices when I made the change the wireless internet is significantly slower. It is no dinasour, but I just think that it is perhaps because the card is not configuered to its true potential? I think it is configured for wireless b when it should be g. I don't know if that will effect the performance, but still there must be something..

Any ideas?
