... tovid still wanted to reencode the video files when I went to author a dvd. It said that some of the files were not ntsc-dvd compliant, but if I just copied the vobs off, and pull the mpgs out of the vob containers, should they not already be in the exact format they need to be? I'm going to just see if I can force, without doing a re-encode, but I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are.

Thanks in advance.

Alright... so, when tovid asked me if I wanted to re-encode the mpgs that I had pulled from vobs that I had copied using vobcopy, I said no and just let the DVD be created and everythign worked fine. DVD is playable and looks great.

tovid is awesome software. On a whim I tried out the "-showcase" menu structure option and wow is it ever cool. It sets up the menu somewhat typically (with a better layout of the thumbnails), but what I didn't expect was that the thumbnails were actually little shrunken versions of the actual movie they point to. So, the 3 home movies on put on the menu are all playing in little 1x1 inch thumbnails on screen.

Pretty cool....
