nice find, but what do you get when you click on the link?

It shows nothing, is RSS broken for this forum?

I see exactly the same things as are shown here: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=20

I am using this right now as one of many feeds in my feedreader, Liferea. Whenever the security forum is updated I get a notice in liferea.

cool. I'm glad it works for you. When I click on on the RSS feed you posted it does nothing the output I posted. I'm using google's customized home page as my reader.

http://ubuntuforums.org/external.php?type=RSS2

Just be sure you add the URL to the application, don't click on it, you'll just get xml codes.

You're welcome ;)

;) well, that still doesn't get the security forums RSS feed working for me. Am I the only one who doesn't get any entries from http://ubuntuforums.org/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=20 ?

I have the Feedview extension installed in Firefox and it usually allows me to see feeds if I just click on them. In this case Firefox formats a feed page with no entries. I am thinking that in liferea I have all previous messages cached and that there are only messages in this feed when there are new security updates. The most recent security message in my cache is dated yesterday so maybe there really is nothing in the feed at the moment.

I say add the feed and watch the forum for a few days and see if when there is a new security update on the forum if the feed shows it as well. I did look at my list in the liferea cache and all the entries are the same as those in the security forum, so I am not missing anything so far. Maybe there is some sort of time limit on how long the new message stays in the queue for the rss feed??? I have not a clue.

The time limit part would make sense, I wounder if there is a way to change that on the forums server? (only for those who do not have them cached like you do. I know goggle only displays the RSS, it doesn't cache them.

Thanks for the replies friend!

Brilliant. I will post in the appropriate forum and make a request and see if this can be done. Thanks for finding that.

Posts are only added to your post count in the technical forums, not the chat forums. There was a long discussion about this a while back and that is what was decided.

well, that makes sense, anyway, back to bumping this! lets see if we can get it added!

It looks like the people who could make the decision and do something about this are offline at the moment. They will see it tomorrow, though. I'm gonna crash now, too.

I'm going to send a private message to the admins right now just to be sure they have seen this. Hopefully we will be able to hear something soon, even if it is a "that just isn't possible right now" or a "we are thinking about it and will get back to you when we can."

I did send the PM, so now it is when/if we hear back. Usually the admins are pretty good about responding, so maybe they are really busy with something.

Thanks for the reply. It will help me out soo much. That way I don't have to monitor my servers, I can just check my RSS feeds.

Thanks!

I got the PM looking into the issue.. It appears that the developers did make a recent change removing that feature I am trying to find out when a release with the fix will be available.
