What are your thoughts on this? I know that Krita has more colorspaces support than Gimp. What are the advantages of each? Gimp will get a big update with GEGL and version 2.6, but Krita and Karbon14 will also get big updates with KDE4. Which one will have more features after that? Thanks in advance for all your comments.:)

I think Gimp is ahead of Krita at this point but Krita seems an easier interface.
I kinda like the KDE based apps even if they are slightly behind the others.
Until they port Paint.NET over to Mono, I would like to use Krita.

Gimp for sure, now with the latest version it is showing they are working hard to get what the people have been begging for.

I tried Krita at a bad time and I wasn't able to give myself the chance to get comfortable with it. I prefer The GIMP simply because I'm more used to using it (been playing with it even while I was using Windows and, almost exclusively, Photoshop).
Regarding Inkscape, it's the one I use for vector drawing. I used to work with Xara Extreme (from the old Edgy repos), it felt "heavy". And I like how Inkscape saves in SVG, which I can use as embedded HTML objects.
I haven't tried Karbon.

The legendary Gimp. Without it, there will be no GTK.
As for vector images editing, I use both Inkscape and Xara. SK1 shows some promise (such as importing Corel Draw .cdr's files), but it's still a long way to go before it can be used for serious works.

According to this (http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/lists/gimp-developer/2007-October/018884.html) link it will take a very long time for GEGL integration and only after this - in version 3.0 will gimp get all the long awaited features. By looking at the schedule it looks like it will take 1-2 years. Is this true?

Well, this is a hard choice. It's not quite comparable. You have some vector programs there and some rastert/pixel. I can only say that I like GIMP, so far. But once Krita becomes more advanced, I'd most likely prefer it. Krita can support CMYK and other color spaces that Gimp, so far, can't. Gimp also is worse than on linux ( which btw, isn't bad ) if you use it with windows, obviously it's made by linux users for linux users. ;P
Krita, however, doesn't work on windows.
Now, inkscape vs. Karbon and Xara...I really don't know, I'm not good at vector and am only used to CorelDRAW and partially Illustrator. I'm trying to get a hang of them, though. :)
