I already have a icon theme set, and I know there is a icon.theme in the icon themes folder. However, I don't know how to change (in this case, set, since the .mp3 file icon didn't change) the default icon for .mp3 files.

I know you can right click a file, select preferences and change the icon there. But I've spent over 10 years encoding my CD's into mp3's - so I have a TON.

on a side note, why is it that when I type in this box, every word is underlined red? I'm assuming it thinks they're mispelled.

on the second one, it looks like you don't have an actual dictionary installed for the ff spellchecker.

Try messing with the icons found under:
~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/mimetypes

when I wanted to change the default .mp3 icon to the generic gnome icon from the real player Icon i did it there.
