Recently I found a copy of ToH Leopard 10.5.2 at one of the local software stores. They had both DVDs, the amd64 and the intel ToH version.
I rushed home with my intel copy to install it and so the story begins:
The installer is very simple really. Just boot up, load up disk utility, create a HFS partition and install OSx to it. Simple as that. Then came the problem with having the bootloader boot without using the OSX install DVD to boot my system.
I quickly found the solution to this by following the guides i found on the web to install the correct MBR and have OSX boot correctly.
Didnt care to have multi-boot cause i am sick of windows anyways.
I found a few patches on the web that once applied enabled my sound and most importantly my nvidia video card to work ... I was now in heaven. OR so i thought.
The system overall is very stable however a few kinks reside.
1- My generic webcam doesnt work
2- My PS/2 keyboard works half and half. The regular alpha keys work. the HOME, PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN and others dont. The windows key is useless ...
I am used to shortcut keys for example in Firefox i use CTRL+T to open a new tab. Now i have to drag my mouse to the new tab option ..
3- External USB drives dont auto mount. -- My Sony Ericsson P990i can be used as an external drive. when plugged in OSx doesnt give a rats *** and doesn't see it.
Like i said -- the system perfomance overall is satisfactory. its not blazing fast nor is it slow. its normal.
Do i prefer it over windows: HELL YA!
The smoothness of things whether it be in visually or the cool animations built into the system are cool and don't get boring after some time.
I am pleased with the fact that popular messenger apps like Yahoo messenger, MSN messenger, Skype and others have native versions whereas in Linux the messengers are hacks missing video/audio components.
Now ... as far as Windows programs in OSx.... I have a few i need to run and I used crossover office for that. its performance is pathetic and very sluggish compared to the Linux version.
I don't know the reason for that but I believe it has to do with the way OSx was designed and it having a *BSD core.
I am still struggling with the decision whether to keep OSx on board or ditch it for a Linux distro.
OSX Plus and Negative:
its a stable system and its very appealing in its visual looks.
it has lots of cool things that work but it treats you like a dummy. everything is mouse here mouse there.
on the negative side its driver support is to be expected considering this is a hacked version of OSX not intended to be used outside the apple hardware.
Linux Plus and Negative:
It is a stable system and can run whatever you need. Simple as that.
Wine emulators work just fine and can reach native speed like windows.
on the negative side it lacks native messenger programs that have audio/video.
...thats it...
