* Ubuntu 8.04/7.10
* Xara Xtreme version 0.7 revision 1692
Powerful Vector Drawing Tool similar but comparable to Adobe Illustrator!

Go to the Xara Website and download the Autopackage:http://www.xaraxtreme.org/download/

Recommended version:
» Download Xara Xtreme (version 0.7 Revision 1692) (Autopackage Archive - 19MB)

Once you have downloaded the file, right click the package file and select properties and go to the permissions tab, Tick the option 'Allow executing file as a program' then close the properties
Double-click the package file to execute the install. Click the triangle icon to drop down the terminal window. In the command terminal window, press enter to accept the install (default is Yes). A prompt to enter in your root password a couple of times appears and then finish installing the program.
The Xara Xtreme program now shows in your Graphics programs group

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

I installed it from the autopackage but when I click on it in the menu, it shows the splash screen, it then disappears and nothing after that. What is wrong?

kbtarl,

same here. I've tried to install from the downloadable package and from add/remove and synaptic package manager, and the same thing happens each time.

It looks like it installs OK. The application becomes available in the Applications_Graphics menu. But on starting, the splash screen appears for a second or two, then leaves a white rectangle in its place. The CPU then dedicates >90% of its capacity to the process, and it sits like this for as long as I'l let it... more than ten minutes.

Not sure what else to try here. Feel like a newbie again having returned to ubuntu after a couple of years break.

Any and all help much appreciated.

Best.

The same XaraLX version (rev 1692) is in the Ubuntu Hardy multiverse repository. So my suggestion would be to
1) uninstall the downloaded version
2) install the repository version

This version should work with no imagemagick or any startup errors.
