When I watch a widescreen DVD using myth(internal player), I get big black borders at the top and bottom of the screen, I have a standard 4:3 television.

I am expecting some black borders at the top and bottom, however I was not expecting that they would be that big.

I then connected a hardware DVD player to my TV and play the same DVD and although I still get borders on the top and bottom, they are much smaller than the ones in Myth.

I have tried cycling through all the aspect ratios in myth(Ctrl-W), but this doesn't make any difference, the bars are simply bigger than they should be.

Where could the problem lie, can someone give me some direction where I can start investigating?

Thanks,

So interestingly when I go into the NVidia X Server Settings applet, it is has my TV set with resolution 1024x768. I wouldn't think that I would even see anything displayed on my TV at this resolution. I think that I'm still seeing something because my myth box is connected to my receiver and not to my TV directly and it's my receiver that's displaying something reasonable.

Can someone please post a sample xorg.conf file for a standard definition TV.

Thanks,

Arif
