Evening all, trust I find you well and with your thinking caps on!

I have two mobile phones. A Nokia 6280 (3G) and a Nokia 6300 (current phone on contract VODAFONE). I can/could use both phones as a mobile modem whilst on monthly contract. The 6300 just connects, as did the 6280, but I've only recently found out that the 6300 is NOT 3G, only 2.5G. The 6280 IS 3G therefore is MUCH faster on the web.

When I "upgraded" to the 6300 I was given a free pay as you go sim for the old phone (6280) as a backup. Cool.

So, having just found out that the 6300 ain't up to spec for surfing I'm trying to get the 6280 to act as a modem on pay as you go. I've spoken to tech support (Vodafone) at length today but no result. This is a PHONE problem, not Linux. The tech guy had me going through hoops with the settings on the 6280 today. I started with the error message "Subscribe to packet data first" and ended with "packet data not available".

Here's the question. How do I get my pay as you go 6280 to act as a modem?

An alternative is to get a pay as you go USB modem/stick, BUT I tried a Vodafone stick (contract) in two to Linux laptops last week and the system just did not see the device. Another alternative is to swap my contract SIM to the older 6280 to browse the web as needed. Not a good option.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated
