Analog joystick

I have install Ubuntu 5.10 and for some reason I cannot get my analog joystick to work. It is plugged into the sound card. Has anybody had this issue?

Have you tried the stuff in this HOW-TO (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=55173&)? It worked for me. Note the last post in the thread about enabling the joystick port on the sound card.
