I have found a cure for my asus x50v notebook. (at least so far I don't have any problem)
The problem was that ubuntu didn't work while working on battery. And I found more people with the same notebook, and they had the same problems. So the solution for this is simple:
Update your bios to the latest version(212).
Just check the asus website for the intructions.

Well I cannot install the 212 update as there is no .ROM version of the update availeble, meaning the flash update utility (accessed under F4 on POST) does not recognise it as an update.
I can see that the current one is along the lines of 08....any ideas?

Hey isn't there another version to download of the bios at asus so that you can use the flash update?
Cause I'm A noob myself at linux but I had download a newer version of my laptop bios and I could install it while using the flash update.

Hey I've updatede the file I used to update. You should put this file on one of your drives (C: or D: ) if you restart and open your bios you should be able to locate the file using the flash bios update.
For more information look at the page www.asus.com
or for bios info and downloads http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
I hope this will work :P

That looks like the same file I grabbed off the site, which wasn't recognised by the update utility (I put on 2 different drives in 4 folders and it wasn't listed anywhere in the update utility when browsing to those directories), can you confirm that you did successfully use the utility with this file?

did you try putting the file on the top layer of a disk? Cource that is wat I did perhaps you can't brows in files. You should try this and otherwise I really don't know why it doesn't work cource With my laptop it worked just fine.
(And yes this is the file used to update my laptop bios)
