Hi Art people, I made some slides and need your help over how it can look better. (See below)

How are the choice of the bullet colors and text fonts? How do you like the contrast of having black text over the dark background? Can you stare at the picture for 20-30 minutes without feeling tired or repulsed?

How do you like the background? Is it too red or too black? Is the Hardy bird feathers too dark, light, or about right? Are there better feathers? What about the color, transparency and size of the logo?

Thanks in advance!

I don't like the red text, you could use some different means of differentiating that particular line, like slightly bigger text, or just set it a bit apart from the other 2.

Also, if you're worried about text readability, I guess you could show an introductory slide with just the background first, and then show the text over a partially desaturated (or lighter or slightly blurred) version of it.
Alternatively, you could move the ubuntu logo to one side (or corner) and have the text over a more uniform part of the background.

Not that there's much of a problem as it is, though, as far as I can see.

I was a bit concerned about those red letters too, and I'm thinking of making it cyan or 100% white.

I tried to have only the basic red, yellow, orange, brown, and black in the slides to be consistent with ubuntu's color theme, but brown turns out to be obnoxious to work with as a background. Very few colors stand out on top of it.

I'll see if a lighter logo would make it better instead of pushing it to the side. It struck me that without the logo large and at the center, the background would look like a typical ubuntu wallpaper.

Thanks for the feedback!

I like the one on the right, in fact I love it. Makes me think of Arbian nights on the river laying my head in the lap of Qua'em, what a lovely girl.

Actually the two are of the same background :), with lighter colors as below. The green looks quite out of place. Unfortunately most colors look either out of place or buried inside the brown background.

What about placing a semi-transparent black-to-clear gradient diagonally across the background? For presentation slides, I usually do this, as it de-emphasizes the background some and allows for the text to do most of the talking, so to speak. Then, you can use lighter colors for the text.

If you would like, post the background picture and I can try to help you out on it.

Thanks robogs and feel free to change it. Let me see the new look you have in mind!

Why not using WHITE

Are you talking about the green text? Lol now I look at it it is really out of place. Ok white is perfect.

I got the idea of green from a recent post on Ubuntu human theme. I thought green will make people think of
"green peace" and "among the trees".

We are all peace loving bunch, right? :)

We are quite a peace loving bunch indeed :p
I think white looks best too. Just experiment, write some words all in different colors and you'll see what's best from your natural feeling.

Cheers

What do you think about this? I know it's a bit dark, but the logo should be visible enough while remaining in the background. This will allow you to use lighter font colors (like orange) and keep to the ubuntu "human" color scheme.

Good luck!

EDIT: Actually, it could be a bit darker if you want it to be.

It's beautiful (clip below). Now no one would complain about red text :)

I would drop the red text seriously , the reason being that red is psychologically related to danger and I suspect that is not the message you are trying to get across.

Edit I couldn't resist

Here is the entire slide show in pdf. The text and bullets are added using latex-beamer package.

The text colors are very fancy, but I doubt I can make it in beamer.
