I have a copy of Dungeons and Dragons (the first and original). It's a demo, though, but it has never been opened. I'd try it on wine it see if it even starts but...then I'd open it and if it didn't work, it'd all be for nothing, lol.
I play Duke Nukem 3D sometimes with DOSbox, but that's about it.

yes! I used to play a lot of these. I still do, sometimes. I even remember Dungeon Master. that was a good game, quite revolutionary, I'd say. the first of a kind. as for EoB series, I kinda liked number one, but it never really striked me as extraordinary. it was just a Dungeon Master clone, though it was one of the first that appeared. (followed shortly by Ishar series.) anyway, I think Ultima Underworld still rules, when it comes to 3d RPGs. this was the game that spawned Doom and The Elder Scrolls series. though it doesn't look so hot, compared with today's standards. :) it could use something like Ultima 7's Exult. there were several projects working towards this goal, but they all seem to be dead/discontinued/incomplete by now. it is a pity, seeing such excellent gameplay (from my experience matched only by heavilly modded Morrowind) marred by archaic graphics. (the same goes for Betrayal at Krondor, another old hit) thankfully, one can alleviate the pain partly with graphics scalers in DosBox. it's not the perfect solution, but I've lost all hope for a remake at this point.

I would be glad that we could have MENU that could download and play all games from apple to ... abandonware PC... with the single lirc remote control for instance (site is google house of games, adandonia ...)
ya know all is on that website : apple cpc zx81 amiga ...
then we get all games and nothing on the harddisk to be retrieve ;)
cannot be a cute idea ? just some wget and awk/grep ...;)

you mean something like what we're doing with Synaptic or Wine-doors? that would be most convenient. :) however, one would still need many emulators to play them all. (but that could be remedied with a nice gaming frontend) yes, I guess it could be done, but I would also take into consideration the legal aspects of this situation. "abandonware" doesn't really mean "free", and some companies still hold their copyrights to these games. and umm, doesn't Abandonia have DOS games only?

no no since sdlmess can play soooo much games : http://www.mess.org/
we could make it, at least I could help with bash scripting and grep/awk/... if you want. Let me know if you would like to help me/ code with me
(but links to website should not be given anytimes since its not allowed by linux)

MESS is good, but it won't play DOS games. besides, there are many better emulators for specific systems. as for coding, I'm afraid I won't be of much help. many long years have passed since I've written anything more serious than a simple bash script. I'm thinking of learing Python, but time - that ruthless tyrant - forbids it. but I see another problem. these games would have to be stored on a net server, somewhere. (a dedicated one, if possible) I don't think simply writing a script to leech from gaming sites would be the best option. also, I'm not sure what you mean by "links not allowed by linux". but it's ok. anyway, I wish you luck, but be sure to stay on the safe side of the law, and ethics. :)

If you give me what you would like, how it would work, by using sdlmame dosbox, ... I could figure out to program it ... (well forbiden here to post the websites)

Ok, so it's not quite as old school as some of the games mentioned, but I just bought might and magic 6 the other day and it would be pretty sweet if I could play it on my laptop. Since I am pretty new to Ubuntu and linux in general, (and not that computer savvy overall) I am wondering if someone could suggest a windows emulator that would work best with that game.
I'd really appreciate it!

Another good one that never gets old is Dungeon Hack. It used the EOB engine coupled with a random dungeon generator (a la Rogue). It was quite good.

I sometimes play UFO: Enemy Unknown (known also as X-Com: Defense Earth).
Old cRPG? Not right now, I prefer tabletop RPG. But I played: Dungeon Master, World of Xeen (Might&Magic 4&5) etc.
I recently played Discworld and Discworld 2 in DOSBox.

I own most of those older D&D games including the ones made before the mouse-o-matic EoB interface and the later ones like Dark Sun (which was kinda like a failed transitional interface before the Infinity Engine). If not the DOS versions then I have them for Apple ][ or Commodore 64.
I have Unlimited Adventures that I poke around with.
Fantasy Empires is a great strategy game if you and you opponents want to finish a game in a few hours instead of taking months. And its got an optional action mode for 2 player simultaneous battles.
One of the things that's appealing about the older D&D games is that they have more of the pen-and-paper feel than the new 3Dish ones. Of course the new 3Dish ones have a certain appeal as well.

I always loved the old Sierra and LucasArts titles.
Namely:
Quest for Glory, King's Quest, Space Quest -Sierra
Monkey Island, Gobliiins, Full Throttle -LucasArts
Beneath a Steel Sky - Revolution Studios (I think?)
I've played many old adventure games. They're very close to my heart.
