Hi Matthew
I know Jereme has some problems (pretty heavy) but was hoping he would pop in here to let us know what was happening and how CE edition was coming on.
I did see the new Muslim Edition was out so hopefully that will spur him on a little ;)

Hi guys,
Yeah, I am working on the Hardy version now! I am finally back on track and will hopefully be getting something out soon. The next release may have to come out without some of the windows installers such as esword, but I am hoping to keep them.
Now, back to work. :)

In that case, may be you could make below thread sticky:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=404042
I have maintaied it to wine RC1, should be ok until wine 1.0. But offcourse I will test again if wine 1.0 is out.

Thanks, I was just looking at that earlier. I appreciate you keeping that up to date. The only issue that I see is that the esword site is not allowing me to use wget to download the installer from their site and the developer will not allow me to include it in the distro.
For now I am going to focus on the basics, Christian Linux apps, look and feel, and of course dansguardian.

Hopefully a little press will help keep you motivated!
A recent Linux magazine article mentioned a Christian "Child" of Ubuntu: http://www.linux-mag.com/id/6200
Thought you should know people still notice you. Keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping the faith during the hard times (in all aspects of the phrase). I look forward to the updates.

Thanks! Looks like they have removed Ubuntu CE from the article though. :(
I am working hard on things and I am really close. The main issue right now is that Firefox 3 beta is not allowing me to lock the proxy settings.
Thanks, Jereme

God Bless, JeremePlease stop reinventing the wheel with the Wine stuff. You would be much better off supporting one of the Wine front-ends being developed like Wine-doors (http://www.wine-doors.org) or PlayOnLinux (http://www.playonlinux.com). That way it would solve the problem for distros other than Ubuntu. If you want to include it in Ubuntu CE then make a proper package for it an get it into the repositories, probably through MOTU.
On another note, Ubuntu CE should exist as a meta package like "ubuntu-desktop" so that it is easily added to any pre-installed Ubuntu system. DansGuardian GUI should also be properly packaged. This would make it all a lot easier to maintain and customize.

Yeah yeah...been awhile since I have been on any Linux related forum. I am still out there using it...life has just been busy starting a church and shutting the doors on my Linux Migration Consultancy firm.
So...how are you looking on the release?
Is there anything you could use assistance from the community on?

Wondering on the progress of 8.04 release. Found the updated download page, with links inactive. Then saw the video of the Ubuntu CE 8.04, which was more of an added anticiption for the release.

He looks like he is close. I just had to do a clean install of Ubuntu on my main box..so the good news is I have a clean back up so I can do it all over again in a few days for giggles. ;)

I am really excited to test this out when it becomes ready for download so I can "convert" my OS (which sounds weird, but I see the obvious pun). I'm a relatively new Ubuntu Linux user, and I think this distribution is exactly what I have been looking for.
I have researched this some, and I was wondering if the issue with some settings (particularly Firefox settings) not being saved will be resolved with the upcoming release. Also, I was wondering what is happening with the fact that the Ubuntu Christian Edition hosting is expired, or whatever the site says.
Thank you,

Yes, I am really close to release. My family and I have just returned to the US from Japan. We have been in Japan for 3 years so we are getting started again here in the states. I am also starting a new office manager job for a web development company. I have the distro ready, I just need to get it uploaded. I also have to finish up the convert_me script.
Thanks, Jereme

We're behind you, Jereme!! We are just chomping at the bit, to install it and see it in action! :)
Thanks for all your efforts! And best wishes in tackling all the new transitions and adventures in front of you and your family. Don't sweat the small stuff!

Jereme-
I too just wanted to take a moment to let you know how much what you've done has made a difference. I have a relative that was on the virge of pulling all his computers out of his home due to his young, unspecting daughters entering keywords that more than once had taken them to bad places. I without hestitation said to him, "Wait!"; I have your solution. I give him my Ubuntu CE box and since then his daughters have enjoyed safe internet travels with an awesome OS to boot. I as well as many others eagerly await the next generation.
Many thanks and blessings,
Devast8 :)

I assume that he has uploaded already because the ISO can be find on this mirror here. http://mirror.oc.edu/lfc/ im not sure if this is an older version of UbuntuCE hardy but I think it is the one.

I downloaded it. I am gonna test it for giggles and see if it is a good one. It was uploaded on july 12, so I am not convinced this is a production ready release. But hey, I sprained my ankle and have nothing better to do right now.

I just wanted to let you know that I stumbled across this thread about 10 minutes ago, registered right away, and had to come on and thank you.
I have been waiting for this release for a very long time, given that I work at a religious private school (aka, no funding) that is in dire need of content filtering and to cut the lifeline from proprietary software that they simply cannot afford, or even know how to use, for that matter. I have been exploring with 7.04 for quite awhile now, but was waiting for 8.04 before switching the computer lab over. I am very excited to be downloading it as I speak.
Thank you very much for your time and effort with this release. It will make my job much easier this school year and will make for a much safer environment for the kids.

Everything appears to be working great on VirtualBox. I just pitched the idea to the guy in charge of the lab and he is really excited and wants me to put together a presentation so we can pitch switching over the entire school computer setup.
I did have one question though: why is it that Ubuntu CE cannot be installed from within Windows like the other Ubuntu distros? I know there are going to be faculty members that will want the option of keeping their Windows system in-tact, and I don't want to risk upsetting them (everyone blames the IT guy) if something goes wrong in the partition resizing process, or if they are using FAT32 (not resizable).
It is not a huge concern, I just wanted to know if there was a reason for not including the wubi installer, and if there is another easy way to install Ubuntu CE from within Windows.
Thanks again for the distro, and I appreciate anyone that takes the time to help me out.

Sounds great! Let me know how it goes.
The only reason that the wubi is not included is because I am not sure how to work with it yet. I am going to try and see if I can include it in future releases.
Thanks, Jereme

Good enough for me. I wouldn't stress on it too much. There are a lot more important things than wubi on CE, and in my opinion, people need to be more willing to migrate most of their data to external storage and try new things out on their systems once in awhile.

I am going to be "passing the torch" on the convert_me script. I have started another thread asking for volunteers to take over the responsibility of the extra scripts.

Hi great thing. I had searched for gui content filter for linux very long. you are only one thing I could found. :):KS:)
One question. Will be a package for this gui ?? and will it be added to normal ubuntu installation?

Thank you very much.
Well, I used to include an install script for the filter/gui itself for those using default Ubuntu. I have not put one together for this release. I am hoping that someone will take that task on to maintain the script.
Thanks, Jereme

Yes, I am planning to update Ubuntu CE. I have been very busy with my site, TheJesusTV.com (http://www.thejesustv.com). Is the next release a LTS release? I might wait to update Ubuntu CE until the next LTS release of Ubuntu.
