In Windows if I wanted some new software I'd go to the shareware sites, look around, download some trial software and install it.
In Ubuntu I see things are done differently. I see there's a Synaptic Package Manager, and a Add/Remove Applications utility, and I'm supposed to add distros, somehow, and install using one of these two utilities.
So do I still get to browse websites, like www.freshmeat.net, or linuxappfinder.com, and say I find a program I want to try, say I randomly pick one, and it points me to a new website, such as:
http://coulon.publi.free.fr/openeuclide/
and I see a download link,
How do I connect Add/Remove Applications, or Synaptic Package Manager, to this download link I found, how do I get this program installed?
Q2. How do I get this program uninstalled when I decide I don't want it?
