Hi!

I'm totally new to Linux, let alone Ubuntu. I'm a windows power user (whatever that crap means) but for the life of me I can't get SecondLife to install at all. I feel like a terrible end user. I tried following the instuctions in https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/add-applications/C/advanced.html
And tried to use the Synaptic packet manager but it won't recognize SL as an installable piece of software. The SL site isn't any help either. Any ideas?

The reason synaptic didn't give you anything is because secondlife isn't in the repositories.

Note: You need the linux version of second life, not the windows one. Just checking :guitar:

Black, you will need to install Secondlife from a terminal. Ubuntu (and other debian based distributions) uses packages in *.deb files which can generally be installed using Synaptic (or apt-get in a terminal). Programs in *tar.gz or *tar.bz files cannot be installed using Synaptic. They have to be installed differently.

See instructions in this link and in the link provided by Herman in this thread.
