Dell 4300 Inspiron
Pentium 4 1.6GHz

It's sluggish when the hdd is being accessed. XUBuntu add-on made things a bit faster though. Overall it runs very well.

My XP/Ubuntu Dual Boot PC:
This is currently my oldest PC and the only one with windows on it, originally built in 2003. It has been upgraded a few times here and there. Amazingly, I still love this computer and use it daily.
Cooler Master A.T.C.S. Aluminum ATX case (Silver)
4 80mm Thermaltake A1357 variable speed fans
XClio 500W stablepower ATX 12V PSU
Abit NF7-S v.2 motherboard (Socket A)
AMD Athlon XP-M 2800+ running at 2645 MHz
Thermalright SI-97a heatsink w/ Panaflo 92mm fan
2 x 1GB OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 RAM
OCZ DDR Booster w/ modified heatsink
BFG GeForce 7800GS 8X AGP video card (500MHz / 1392MHz)
BFG Ageia Physx PCI card
D-Link DWL-AG530 a,b & g Wireless PCI card
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 platinum
Seagate 7200.10 300GB IDE Hard Drive
HP 16x DL DVD+/-R/RW Lightscribe drive
Sony/NEC Optiarc 52x CDRW/DVD-ROM Drive
Iomega 250MB Zip Drive
AOC Box case drawer
HP w19 Silver 19" LCD Monitor
Creative Labs I-Trigue 3330 Speakers
Cherry Cymotion Master Linux Keyboard
Logitech MX400 mouse
Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000 USB webcam
HP DeskJet 970Cse color printer from my older system!
As long as this PC runs, I think I will always use it. It is still my favorite. I put my old Super 7/AMD K6 II 550 system to rest around after building this one. I kept my first socket A/Duron 1300 system (Windows 98se) and this one going. I started playing with Linux in Late 2003, not really getting the hang of it for about a year, then Ubuntu came along. I never really looked back. I have 2 newer systems with dual core AM2 CPU's and Raptor hard drives, they just don't get my attention as much.

ASUS Maximus Formula SE

sounds awesome right? the ram and mobo dont get along... constant mem related crashes and having to clear cmos.. even on linux... but i just need to buy a new brand
the 57" is really tooooo big. i love it, dont get me wrong, but for basic day to day stuff, text is just way too small... i am a good 10 feet away from it after all..
and my super OC ready chip? it pushes from 2.4GHz to 3.0 without a prob, but a hair more i have to instantly push the juice to more than my over-the-top tuniq heat sink can handle :( need water

Mobo: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair

No Windows at all!--this is my first fully MS-free computer, but hey, Portal runs nicely under Wine these days, who needs it? ;)

Ha, I think 4 is enough (when my laptop is docked :D). I use Synergy to share a keyboard and mouse between them.
The panels are only 17-inchers but 3 is still pretty immersive
The lovely tidy insides of my PC (still looks a bit messy in the pic). I got bored one day and spent an hour routing everything out of sight. I really need some SATA cables with right-angled connectors :)

But with surround video, you can spin on your desk chair. [if it has wheels] That would be cool.

Don't ever worry that antifreeze will hit the board? I've got great cooling in my system. Never really goes over 85 degrees. How low does the temp go down with the water cooling?

4 months ago that happened, all the northbridge and the sound card (pci ports includes) get filled of ugly, smelly green liquid, the coolant is non corrosive and non conductive, nothing happened, I cleaned and exchanged the broken block (this cooland destroyed the acrylic block :S )
Liquid hybrid (like my) system only down a little the temp no too much (compared with air or pasive cooling), the good is, no noise, and the temp don't move when the system start generating head, from IDLE: 32°c (87°F) to FULL: 53°c (127.40°F) and changes sloooooly, water is a heat regulator.
My sensors are:
normal use:
Core0 Temp: +87.8°F < read from the CPU
Core1 Temp: +91.4°F < read from the CPU
VCore 1: +1.14 V
fan1: 2311 RPM < fans are LOW (no noise)
fan2: 992 RPM < fans are LOW (no noise)
fan3: 5625 RPM < this is a 1 1/2 inch fan on the memory
M/B Temp: +95.0°F < shouthbridge
CPU Temp: +100.2°F < read from the Motherboard
Chipset: +75.2°F < northbridge
GPU: 109.4 ºF
I use Celsius:
Core0 Temp: +32.0°C
Core1 Temp: +35.0°C
VCore 1: +1.14 V
fan1: 2311 RPM
fan2: 992 RPM
fan3: 5625 RPM
M/B Temp: +36.0°C
CPU Temp: +39.0°C
Chipset: +25.0°C

My dual cores are running about 85 to 88°F. I used Zalman Fatal1ty fans on them. Even during major use, they never go over 90°F. My dual 9600 gt's usually run around that same. I wonder what the water cooling setup would do for me.

Its a pretty good multimedia setup I think. I don't do anything processor-intensive so the tech sepcs aren't top-notch but the screen and speakers kick ***. I need a better keyboard/mouse combo and want a better soundcard. There's nothing wrong with mine, but you know. :-)

AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile
ATI X1200 Graphics
Realtek Wireless (annoying getting working, but I have it working now)
Logitech Wireless Mouse (two back and forward buttons built-in, very convenient)
It's not the newest, I got it in November of 07, but it gets the job done and then some. I'm very happy with it

I also have an older no-name 1.5 Ghz with 1 gig RAM running Gutsy which happily runs my webserver.
My latest addition is a sweet eeepc. I removed the Xandros OS, which I tried to like, but found it out of date and rather buggy. I installed Gutsy and am eagerly awaiting Intrepid Ibex which I will install when it hits Beta.

I use a back breaker of a laptop. Dell XPS M1710. 17" panel, 100GB HDD, DVD-R/RW drive, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7900 GS and a Core 2 Duo @ 2.0Ghz. Thing wieghs more than a super tanker full of moons and gets hot enough to jump start hydrogen fusion.
Hence the eee PC 701. 1Gb RAM, 4GB SSD, a SHA256 enrypted 2GB SD card (/home), Celeron 900Mhz (yes mom, I installed the fsb modification) and pretty much it other than some serious fettling. Loverly beastie that goes in my handbag everywhere with me.
Both run Ubuntu 8.04, stock on the XPS, heavy fettled netbook-remix'd on the 701.

I haven't updated this in a while:
Laptop:
Acer Aspire 5610 (US model = no webcam)
1.73GHz Intel T2250 (Dual Core)
[Core Duo, or "Centrino Duo" if you prefer]
1GB RAM
120GB SATA HDD
Intel GMA 945 graphics
DVD+R burner (I've always wondered if it'll burn -Rs as it's a "Multi-Recorder" but was never brave enough to try)
Intel wireless, Intel audio
With all my media keys working
Display: 1280x800 LCD
Runs: Intrepid Alpha 3
Server:
Custom built as the result of quite a few "repairs":
1.3GHz AMD Athlon XP 1500+
512MB DDR RAM
40GB IDE HDD (been meaning to get a SATA or two, as I have ports)
Old Compaq DVD drive (which has no case on it because the thing that keeps the disc in the drive keeps getting magnetically attached to the roof of the case)
Samsung CD-RW drive
VIA audio
ATI Radeon x800 (AIW, but none of the inputs work with any existing driver) running the 'radeon'/'ati' drivers
Display: 1680x1050 ViewSonic VA226W over DVI
Runs: Hardy (Desktop)
Desktop:
HP Pavilion 742n
1.6GHz AMD Athlon XP 2000+
120GB IDE HDD
"hp cd-writer plus" CD-RW drive
Unlabeled DVD drive
nVidia GeForce2 (integrated) graphics running 'nv' drivers (the nvidia drivers just keep crashing it and displaying garbage)
Display: 1280x1024 LiquidVideo LCD (which is supposedly broken but has been working for the past few days, I think it was a sleep-related problem)
Runs: Hardy (desktop)
Wintop:
Note: This machine refuses to run anything under a Linux kernel. FreeBSD will be dualbooted in the near future. The only reason it has some of the best specs is because I built it all at work a year ago out of parts from what can pretty much be described as a trash can that happened to be pretty good.
Mobo is from an old Dell (with 3 PCI, no AGP, integrated Intel graphics that I don't use)
1.8GHz Intel Pentium 4
2GB DDR-400 RAM (which I need to run Windows, of course)
40GB IDE HDD
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 PCI graphics (... running the nVidia drivers for Windows)
Creative audio (which is being slaved to the input channel on my server, which then has speakers attached to it. The server has a better integrated audio card, though, as it has SPDIF and other goodies)
Display: The same 1680x1050 LCD as the server, but attached via VGA (and DVI doesn't even give me this resolution)
Runs: Windows XP
Complete with:
- cygwin including complete build environment, X server, SSH server/client, nano, and much much more
- Synergy client (input is handled by the server)
- Complete Apache/PHP/Mono web hosting system (not attached to my website yet)
- All of those programs from the bad old days I just couldn't leave behind (like, say, 3d modeling tools that cost oodles of money)
- And most importantly: Tango Icon Patcher and Clearlooks theme.

1x320Gb SATA ext3 (for torrents and linux use)
1x500Gb SATA NTFS (windows share)
no screen etc.

Well, everything below w/Kubuntu plus Ubuntu on my PS3. It just depends on which room I'm in as to which computer I use. I also have an xbox that I'll be tweaking here pretty soon! PS3ubuntu is kind of slow, but it does great for my main purpose, which is to use as a music player using amarok and accessing my music server or my favorite internet radio stations. That way I don't have to hook my laptop up to the stereo.

I want to apologize if this has already been posted. If so, someone do a merge or something, because i couldn't find anything like this.
Okay, so this is simple:
There a poll asking for the processor you use. Please use your current machine (the one you are using to make the post...if you own it). I know some, if not, most people have multiple machines with different configs. So just keep it simple.
Then after you take the poll, give us a list of the hardware (if custom built) or the name and model of your rig (if you can list some hardware about it too).
If you have multiple machines, post all of them. Separate them in a coordinated manner.
Some pics would be nice and links to the exact model you have (if you bought it pre-built).
And if possible, post the pics as attachments, they take up less space on the thread, its just neater. But again, use your own discretion.
Please keep it clean, not too wordy (I dont care if you give us a little histroy, its nice to have some backstory), and dont tell people they suck just because they use Intel...ahem:rolleyes:.
Hopefully this benefits the community somehow.

IBM T43 (1875-DLU)
1.73GHz Pentium-M
1GB DDR2 (2x 512MB, 533MHz)
Intel onboard graphics
64GB Transcend Solid-State Hard drive.
14.1" Screen.
(Average 5.5 hrs of usable computing time on battery)
Compiz works like a charm on it...got all kinds of crazy effects going.
Everything worked out of the box with 8.04 minus "advanced features" like fingerprint reader and Active Protection. I've installed packages for the latter and it seems to work well.

My baby:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l
nVidia 8800GT!
2 gigs ram (should be four)
500gb hard drive (primary)
300gb hard drive (dedicated to all 30 seasons of Doctor Who)

Logitech MX700 mouse (wireless)
Rosewill case and PSU (best case I ever had)
+ Viewsonic 21" widescreen LCD
+ Ubuntu Studio 8.04 & Vista (haven't booted into vista allll summer.)
She's my sweetie for music, web surfin', video editin', games playin'. Played Crysis like a champ (on vista).

my sister's favorite
800mhz celeron
384 mb ram
video card: good question. geforce2 maybe?
40gb hd :(
old compaq case!!!
+ hacked Windows XP.
parent's Dell
Piece of crap 2ghz Celeron, 512mb ram, onboard vid, 200gb hd maybe? It's a piece of crap and waaay slower than the 800mhz my sister uses.
Oh, and this one's really cool. It's not mine, my friend engineered it. I don't know the exact specs, but it's a micro-atx PC inside a ... TOOLBOX! We use it when we go camping. He has a floppy keyboard and tiny mouse and all that and the cords store up in a second toolbox. There's even a 7" lcd for it now. And he has a GPS hookup so he can use it in his car for that!

My machine has a long history. It started life as a Gateway over 8 years ago, but now the only thing remaining from the old Gateway is the 3.5" floppy drive. :D I've changed motherboards, video cards, and the CPU three times; upgraded RAM twice; replaced the case and power supply; and replaced the old CD-RW/DVD with a DVD-RW. Quite a mongrel. :)

These are my own two Desktops, which i use mostly myself now..
90417
The silver one is the first PC i built from completely new parts, after a fun first 2 years messing around with older machines i`d acquired along the way.
Nothing fancy for my first attempt from new though.
90418
The motherboard is an Asrock ALiveNFF7G-HD and although it has a perfectly capable(for moi) onboard Nvidia 7 series GFX i currently just use the separate Nvidia FX5500 card i have.
And the black one.
90419
It has an Epox E4PLM board with a 128mb ATI 9200 agp card.
Both monitors were bought last year but i`ll be changing both for DVI capable ones after the year,if i get my own way that is.
There`s also my lads Desktop up in his room and a few laptops the girls use. There all kinda on par spec wise with my own secondary machine.

Just a checkup
I have to apologize to the powerPC users. I completely forgot about that architecture. But i guess its part of others. Also SPARC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARC)
Also, theres IBM, TI, motorola, Fujitsu, etc. They too make CPU's. I guess for lessgeneral desktop and more specialized (PDA's, handhelds, smartphones, etc)
Anyway, as of Halloween, we have more Intels than AMD's. Cool to know.
Being an AMD guy, I do realize that as of right now (and the past 2 years) Intel's been kicking AMD's a**. I hevent heard Phenoms to be any good, and Intel still has a better flagship. I guess it was inevitable (sigh).
But serisouly, no biased-ness. If it wasnt for CPU's...well you get the picture.

Currently my only machine is a Linux Certified LC2100s (http://linuxcertified.com/linux-laptop-lc2100s.html) notebook.
Specs:
Hard Drive: Hitachi HTS54251 ATA Disk 120 GB (I only ordered 100 GB :))
RAM: 2 GB
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 1.80 Ghz
Graphics: Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller
Audio: Intel 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller
Wireless: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Optical: QSI DVD+-RW SDW-085
Battery: Lithium Ion Battery (32560mWh capacity, voltage=14.8V)
Overall, I am very satisfied, they gave me more than I paid for (bigger hard disk, dvd burner should have cost extra). Battery life leaves a little to be desired, but I'm never far from an outlet anyhow so that's a moot point for me. I have nothing but good things to say about this product. Intel GM965 is blacklisted for Compiz, but it has worked perfectly since day 1.

Lol an HP case from like 2005. Everything in it has changed except the Floppy Drive (don't use) and card reader (I don't think it works right with the new mobo)
AMD ftw, I've had nothing but good experiences with them, and although I've had no bad experiences with Intel either, AMD's prices are much better right now :-) (And I'm poor, even for being 15)
Craptop:
AMD K6 400 Mhz
192 MB RAM (max)
Old ATI card
Busted CD Drive
1 USB port
4.5 GB Hard Drive
A PCMCIA slot with a wireless card that cost more than the actual computer did
A screwed up Debian installation (tried it this morning and the trackpad and keyboard didn't work in Debian anymore, had to use a USB keyboard. Worked in BIOS)
Windows 98...
I hope to install another distro on it. I really want Arch, but the CPU is only i586 and Arch needs i686 :-( NOt sure where to go, but Debian took up to much HD space, especially with a dual boot :-P The big problem here is the CD drive. I'm gonna try to make a bootable flash drive and use one of those Floppy bootloaders to boot from it (the BIOS doesn't support it, not surprisingly)
