I've been playing with Ubuntu and I'd like to switch to making it my main operating system, but it's not compatible with my Dell 1125 multifunction printer.

Does anybody know whether Dell has public announced plans to release Linux drivers for all its peripheral hardware? I can't find anything one way or another on their web site. It's an excellent machine for its price range and I would hate to give it up for something Linux-compatible but not as good.

The closest model number I found on the hardware support wiki (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrintersDell) is the Dell 1100, which it claims works to some degree using the Samsung ML-1510 driver. It wouldn't hurt to give that a try, but it does not appear from a quick search that the 1125 MFP is specifically supported.

Thanks, but the 1125 is already filed under OpenPrinting as a paperweight. It definitely doesn't work.

What I'm more curious about is Dell's medium-term plan for expanding their Ubuntu business to more hardware. HP has made most of their printers and MFPs Linux-compatible now, at least partially. But Dell seems more focused on the computers than peripherals.

Is there a roadmap for Dell Linux deployment somewhere pubicly available? Or is it all a corporate secret?
