If I load the generic kernel all is well. It started with the initial install of 8.04 and has not been resolved with updates. I am running a Toshiba P35-S609.

I am not sure why it works fine with one kernel and not other.

I apologize if this was dealt with in another thread, but I have not found it.

Thanks,

Louis

Did you install linux-restricted-modules and linux-ubuntu-modules for the 386 kernel?

I imagine this is not the most complete answer, but in both installations I used the drivers that were installed on installation. In the generic kernel, I do use restricted drivers. In the 386 kernel the restricted drivers are nowhere to be found.
