I currently dual boot with Vista and Hardy.

Since upgrading to 8.04, I can't get any sound. Using lspci -v in the terminal, the system can see my sound card. It's a Soundblaster X-Fi and using the Comprehensive Sound Problem guide I found that it has the 'emu20k1' chipset. According to the website it gave the following information:

"Card delivered to developers. Completely new architecture. Creative have supplied a data sheet to developers. Development work has started."

Does anyone know what sort of timescales are involved in the development of above or is that like asking how long a piece of string is?

What alternatives are there for me other than waiting for development to be completed. I wouldn't want to go down the 'buy another soundcard' route unless it's absolutely necessary.

Cheers

a lot changed in sound from gutsy to hardy. if you could do it easily, might be an idea to try a live cd, and see if sound works there. which i would guess it would,, and which would suggest sound is just not working due to some old dead config files cluttering things up

btw, whatever creative says on there website, ignore
