View Full Version : [ubuntu] Sending Mail outside the main box

I'm having issues on various fronts when trying to send mail via postfix/smarthost from my other computer on the network, and SquirrelMail.

I can send mail through the read user mail module in Webmin but not via thunderbird on my other PC. It simply gives up. I tried setting up squirrel mail, but I'm sure I configured that wrong with TLS (The documentation on that isn't that spiff.)

I seem to always have a problem with this and haven't found an answer yet.

My postfix main.cf is:

# Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first
# line of that file to be used as the name. The Debian default
# is /etc/mailname.
#myorigin = /etc/mailname

smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu)
biff = no

# appending .domain is the MUA's job.
append_dot_mydomain = no

# Uncomment the next line to generate "delayed mail" warnings
#delay_warning_time = 4h

readme_directory = no

# TLS parameters
smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
smtpd_use_tls = yes
smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache

# See /usr/share/doc/postfix/TLS_README.gz in the postfix-doc package for
# information on enabling SSL in the smtp client.

myhostname = dragonetworks.org
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
myorigin = /etc/mailname
mydestination = dragonetworks.org, dragonetworks.net, dragonet.dragonetworks.org, localhost.dragonetworks.org, localhost
relayhost = mail.clearwire.net
mailbox_command = procmail -a "$EXTENSION"
mailbox_size_limit = 0
recipient_delimiter = +
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
smtp_sasl_security_options =
smtpd_delay_reject = no
mydomain = dragonetworks.org

My postfix master.cf is:

you need
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 192.168.0.0/24 (adapt the second network to yours)
in main.cf in order to authorize computers of your network to send thru the server.

dpkg-reconfigure postfix will help you eventually.

That, and SMTP auth is not configured.

Take a look at this document to guide you with configuring SMTP authentication.

I went through the SMTP auth guide and now it asks for a password every 5 seconds without actually sending anything.
