This is quite simple actually, I tested this with a Logitech USB Headset, a $1 headset I baught at the dallor store and a Panisonic USB headset.
Steps:
1. Open your Terminal.
2. Type: "sudo gedit /etc/modules" ( See this image. (http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/4240/step25lf.png) ).
3. Your file should have something like this (http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/5664/step35nw.png).
4.Now change that file to something like this (http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/1857/step48sy.png).
Now, if you have your USB Headset Plugged in, take it out, put it back it. Now simpily Restart your computer.
When it is fully restarted. You should hear sounds then :). Hope it works for you because it worked for me
